YWCA pool to close June 1, 2012
The YWCA Aquatics Center will officially close its doors Friday, while the organization continues to search for an operating partner.
Jean Brown, executive director, said the June 1 closing date was announced in February, when the organization decided to cease activities, citing increased operating costs.
Ms. Brown said the YWCA is currently “in dialogue” with three local organizations that have expressed interested in a partnership to keep the pool open. She declined to name the organizations until agreements are official.
“We are still working with partners for a potential transition, but we know that’s not going to be seamless, so we’re just drawing this chapter to a close,” she said.
The pool will remain closed until a new partner takes over.
The YWCA will host a customer appreciation day on June 1 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for its staff and swimmers to share memories of the pool’s 100 years of operation.
It will officially close at 2 p.m. Friday.
